I always thought of the word Litmus as a metaphor for change. I
thought it
was a nice idea, especially considering the climate of surfing in
1995 when The Val Dusty Experiment independently made the film and
recorded the soundtrack.
Independence was important to The Val Dusty Experiment; we had our
own ideas about music, photography, art and surfing. I believe this
is essentially what made Litmus the unique film it was.
Independence remains important to me today. This is the main reason
I've set up
litmus.com.au It allows me to continue to release my work independently.
It also allows you access to the material.
Since Litmus I've been involved in numerous projects - it's interesting
because the ideas and completed works have all been an extension
of what Litmus was. I've continued with my photography, both with
the still camera and the motion picture, I'm currently in production
of a new film and book, there's no date set for the release, but
with each new day it moves a little closer.
My debut album 'The Spaces in Between' that I released in fall 2001
was much the same. It took four and half years to write and record
the material for this album. It was a long journey. I lived in both
Australia and California during these times -bumming my way around
the globe, writing and taking photos for my bread and butter and
saving every penny so I could complete the recordings.
Each project I'm involved in is a long and arduous process. This
is the reason I've made litmus.com.au an interactive site: To keep
you up to date with current projects, artists I'm working with,
or any other interesting ideas, people or places I come across along
the road.
For your information litmus.com.au is a secured site. When you send information it is sent with 128 bit encryption to the banks and the payment is checked and transacted in real-time. Your credit card details are not stored on our server.
Hopefully through this website I'll be able to continue my independence
as an artist. I thank you for your support in the past and look
forward to meeting you on the road in the future.
Sincerely,

Andrew Kidman
